Cost:  $47 per person

We are thrilled for the return of in-person tastings, and what better way to celebrate
than to usher the return of our annual regional picnic?!

We are planning a slimmed down version of past picnics, think of this more as a neighborhood gathering.  We will have a competition, but will be run very similar to the Amatuer Wine Competition that occurs at the National Conference.  Every one will get a chance to score and contribute to the overall awards.  Some of our esteemed Certified Judges will be on hand to assist participants in scoring.  Lunch will be served, and then Frank Penedes, CEO of WineNOW will be joining us in the afternoon for an education session on Portuguese wines.

A big objective for this picnic is for a number of our regional chapters to socialize together and build camaraderie not only among their own chapters but across all chapters.  A number of chapters in our area are starting to host multi-chapter events, which is a wonderful way to meet new people and find new ideas for tasting opportunities.

Any questions, please contact Jennifer Perry, Southeastern PA RVP rvpjenniferperry@gmail.com
or Bob Hale, North
east PA RVP skihale@rcn.com

Tables and chairs will be provided, but please bring pop-up canopies should you wish to sit in the shade.  Lunch will be served, but we are asking attendees to bring a potluck dessert.

If you are interested in submitting wine for the Amateur Wine Competition, please click here for details on registering (we’ll need to insert a link and then include Bob’s details on the competition)

Our Lehigh Valley chapter has been gracious enough to host registration for this event.  Please visit www.lvaws.org, click on Events at the top of the screen and then scroll down to the Regional Picnic where you will see the link to register.  Please note that if you are also registering for the Amatuer Wine Competition, the registration link is separate to the Picnic, and is located just below the Picnic details.

 WE STILL HAVE SEATS AVAILABLE

AWS Meadowlands NJ Chapter May Meeting

The American Wine Society Meadowlands Chapter is hosting a wine tasting meeting on Friday May 20, 2022 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.   It will take place at the award-winning wine school, Make Wine with Us, located at 21 Currie Avenue, Wallington, NJ.

“It started with the Greeks”.  In the 8th century the Greeks brought grape vines to Italy and the rest as they say is history.  Italy has been making wine for over 2800 years. With 20 wine regions, and over 500 documented different kinds of grapes in circulation, and with a total number of over 2000 grape varieties, Italy certainly has earned the title of “Land of the Grapevines”.  To say that wine has not be at the center of life in Italy, would be an understatement.  Find a picture of an Italian dinner without wine on the table, go ahead I dare you.

Italy is the top country in wine production in the world bar none, the country with the 2nd most is France but they are behind Italy by over 600,000 liters.

So, grab your glass, it’s time to enjoy a trip to the Italian Vineyards with a sampling of regional wines this month as we celebrate regional wines of Italy with "Mamma Mia......... Questo è un sacco di vino"! “Mamma Mia………That’s a lot of wine”!

To try and sample all of the regions of Italian wines is impossible, but we are sure going to have fun trying.

This month our very own Damon Falcone, newly AWS certified wine judge; will guide us through this regional tasting as he brings much knowledge and personal experience from his many trips to his home land Italy to this class.  Damon, I am sure will delight us all with his quick wit, smile and details of his love of wine. Yea he is pretty cool too.

We will sample various varietals Pino Gris, Chianti, and Primativo, just to name a few.   Damon will guide us as we taste and compare the regions.  This will prove to be a wonderful evening of Italian wines; Magnifico!

Please come and check out what the rave is all about regarding our chapter, AWS-Meadowlands, the fastest growing chapter in NJ.  Wines, delicious savory and sweet snacks, and YES of course Denise will be bringing her world-famous chocolate covered grapes.  All of this enjoyed with the company of some fun-loving people. $20.00 for AWS members and $25.00 for guests. Such a Deal!

Seating is limited so please contact us at wineclub201@gmail.com to reserve your seats & seats for your friend’s, also ask us about our upcoming Wine events.  We look forward to meeting you and your friends.  Cheers and Salute!

Age and glasses of wine should never be counted.
