2017 Harvest News
Lodi Winegrape Commission's Stuart Spencer, of St. Amant Winery, says crop levels are light to average across the appellation, the result of an unusual weather year, with an extremely wet winter and spring. He and other vintners expect harvest will be in full swing by mid-August. “Quality at this point looks pretty good,” he says.

Stuart Spencer will again be at the American Wine Society Conference this year.  He does a fantastic job with presentations and will keep you engaged.  Take up one of his tasting sessions if you can.

Why am I providing you with Lodi region harvest news?  This is where the grapes are sourced from and these reports help with your decision making for 2017 harvest.  Click here  if your interested in learning about Wine Making.

This year the feedback has been for us to make make a new blend.

Barrel One:  1/3 Zinfandel. 1/3 Petite Sirah, 1/3 Petite Verdot

Barre; Two:  still open for discussion... what would you like to make?  Send me your ideas.

Hello Friends & Members,

This past weekend, a few friends and I ventured out to Brooklyn Heights to find a place to eat & drink and came across the perfect place.  The “Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar & Kitchen” located at 50 Henry Street.    The place has a welcoming ambiance; A cool and casual atmosphere reflective of the locals from this lovely neighborhood.   The place is not huge and can get busy so plan ahead, we used opentable.com to reserve a close gathering.   We sampled many of their various snacks, appetizers, and entrees… all were very good!

They have a full bar service so yes we did started with cocktails and beers then moved on to the good stuff... wines.    They have a broad selection of new-world and old-world wines via bottles & by-the-glass.    We meet with the managers who were just as sociable as the staff.    Many thanks to Stuart Leaf for his hospitality.

DO NOT forget  July 27th @ 6pm  We will be bottling our Zinfandel & Petite Sirah

Come by and be part of the social fun.  I will hand out pamphlets with notes about both of these fantastic grape varietals. Yes, you can still come in and participate, even if you did not get a case   However, if interested, we have a case of each varietal still available from each barrels.    As you know, this is the last and final process in wine making.   We will fill the bottles, cork them, place foil caps and then label them.  Of course, we will be sampling them along the way… because after all that is part of the fun!     We will have some snacks but do feel free to bring additional foods as in past meetings.

Overview:  Lodi California grape varietals, 10 months in Opus barrels, French oak.

Labels:  We will need to limit wine labels 2 per barrel.  If you like to submit your label for consideration, it needs to be sent to us by July 8th.    Don’t worry if you do not get a chance to compete in the label contest.  We will have lovely generic labels available for each varietal.
