SANGRIA NIGHT WAS A HIT... AGAIN!   As promised below are some recipes from event.

Cucumber Gimlet White Sangria

This one combines two classic cocktails into one unexpectedly delicious and refreshing summertime cocktail.   Cucumber Gimlet White Wine Sangria is made with dry white wine, gin, but can easily use vodka.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of Sauvignon Blanc or other dry white wine
  • ¼  cup Gin  or if you prefer as an option use Ketel One Cucumber & Mint
  • ¼  cup simple syrup
  • ¼  cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 stalks celery cut into 3 inches pieces (optional)
  • 1 medium cucumber thinly sliced
  • 3 limes thinly sliced
  • Ice, additional cucumber and lime slices in your glass for garnish if desired

Instructions

Combine all of the ingredients except for the ice in a pitcher and stir, store in the refrigerator until ready to serve, add ice to individual glasses.

Note:  To make simple syrup, combine equal parts water and sugar in a small saucepan, heat until all the sugar is dissolved, then cool completely in the refrigerator.  (1 cup water and 1 cup sugar)

 Phil’s Summertime Red Sangria-Plaooza
If, you don’t already know this, summertime is the perfect time for
Sangria, like you need an excuse to have Sangria; Heck anytime is
good time for some Sangria. So, here is a recipe for one of the best
tasting Sangrias you will ever taste, NOT because I say so but the
proof is in the taste. This is very easy to make. Yes I say it is the best
not because it’s mine but it because it is true. IMPORTANT NOTE:
Always, Always use good fresh fruit and a good drinking wine that you
like and you will always make great Sangria. You can’t make Good
Sangria with bad fruit. Bad wine, let’s not even go there.

Ingredients:
Two bottles of a good table red wine
Half bottle of brandy. Use the pint bottle, if you what more of a kick
use the whole pint, start with a small amount and add to your taste.
Fruit, I can’t not say this enough, fresh ripe fruit please. When cutting
fruits try to make them all the same size.
1 pint Strawberries, hulled and cut up
1 Bunch of grapes red seedless, cut in half if you like but always freeze
them before add to the mix
1 cup Fresh pineapple chunks
1 apple peeled and diced
1-2 peaches not over ripe, diced (Ok if you can’t get good peaches use
a couple of snack pack diced peaches, yes, I know but you add the juice and all, in fact even if you get the fresh peaches add one of these with the juice too, yes this is My Secret and now you know it too).
1 orange, peeled and cut into sections
These fruits are optional if you like them add them.
1 /2 pint Blueberries freeze solid before adding
1 cup of cut up melons, Papaya, Mangos. B BOLD!
1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
2-3 Tablespoons of Blue Agave syrup, TO TASTE make this the last
thing you add, do it to taste. Remember you can add more, but you
can’t take it out, so add taste, and add again if you have to. You will
notice there is no granulated sugar in this recipe; the Agave gives it a
richer flavor and a smoother mouthfeel. In my humble opinion.

Instructions
Prepare fruit and place in a large pitcher, add salt, Brandy and wine
mix well BUT gentle you do not want to break the fruit. After a good
mixing now add half the amount of the Agave and mix than taste, add
more and taste again, keep doing this part till you get the taste you
want.
After it is done place sangria mixture in the fridge for couple of hours
however overnight is the best. I Don’t put ice in pitcher as it will
dilute the Sangria. That’s why I freeze the grapes the act as the ice
cubes and are tasty too. However, if you must add Ice at least make
larger Ice cube or large round ice ball, they sell the molds on Amazon.
The larger the ice cube or ball the slower it melts and the less it

dilutes the Wine. For want some fizz top with some sparkling water,
or prosecco, I prefer the Prosecco. Just a splash.
Now Pour and Sip slowly and sit back and enjoy with your guests.
Serve with any summer time snacks or meals. Cheers and salute.

VP AWS Meadowlands chapter and all-around good wine guy.
