To all of our friends of the American Wine Society
HAPPY NEW YEARS!
Nothing rings in a new year like bubbles! By bubbles, we mean Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, Cremant, or any other domestic sparkling wines.
Whether you you’re hosting a party OR NOT, you need to toast in the new year, there are plenty of sparkling wines. If you are a Champagne fan, you can consider any other the other regions listed below. Every major wine producing country has sparkling wine that produces fantastic bubbly.
Keep in mind that traditional Champagne is when second fermentation takes place in the bottle and not in a tank.
I am not a fan of sparkling wines where carbonation was added to the wine like a soda pop. ☹ These are mass production of lower quality wines. GO for the good stuff… especially after a year like 2020.
Here are some non-French wines that are made in the same traditional Champagne style:
· Italy: Metodo Classico (Prosecco are tank fermented)
· Spain: Cava and at times referred to as Espumoso
· Germany and Austria: Sekt
· South Africa: Cap Classique
· Portugal and Argentina: Espumante
· USA, South America, Australia and other regions will label them as Traditional Method and “Méthode Champenoise”
Don’t be afraid to try something new.
We wish you all good health and happiness in the New Year! May it decorate your life with unlimited colors of joy!
